Empoli held down Juventus to draw as the host’s defense held down Bianconeri attempts.
Juventus had the early possession and were controlling the ball well in midfield. However, the hosts were pressing them high up the pitch to prevent them from reaching the final third.
Vlahovic got his first look at goal when he managed to turn on the edge of the box, but his shot was expertly blocked and missed the mark. But the home team cleared the resultant set piece with ease.
Vlahovic had another good opportunity, this time more out on the right, but his shot was again blocked and went out for a corner. But Empoli easily cleared because the corner delivery wasn’t the best.
Empoli displayed excellent play as they move the ball efficiently down the left wing and Pezzella whipped a deep cross into the box in search of Gyasi at the far post. But Juventus were able to return just in time to eliminate the threat.
Following a swift counterattack, Vlahovic was released behind the Empoli defense. He attempted to get the ball by the keeper, but Ismajli made a fantastic recover and cleared the ball with a sliding challenge.
On the outskirts of the penalty area, Colombo passed the ball to Maleh, who attempted a first-time effort on goal. But Perin was too near to the strike, and he easily made the save.
Esposito was wonderfully set up by Empoli with the ball on the edge of the box. With an inch separating him and his defender, he unleashed a low shot towards goal. It missed the Juve net, but it didn’t bother Perin.
Gonzalez nearly got by the Empoli defense when Vlahovic flicked one on, but Pezzella moved quickly to recover and clear it behind for a corner.
Vasquez denied Gatti with a fantastic save. A short corner was delivered into the area from the left, and the center-back, unmarked, rose highest to power a header towards goal. Vasquez, though, performed a masterful job of tipping it over the crossbar.
Vasquez, who sprinted to the edge of his penalty area in an attempt to narrow the angle, was the only player Vlahovic had to overcome as he raced through on goal. The goalie performed admirably, blocking Vlahovic effort with his legs.
Juventus had another chance when a deep cross from the left wing found Vlahovic at the far post, who flicked it goalward. Vasquez made a great save, and the Empoli defense cleared the rebound before it could reach Yildiz.
Pellegri played a fast one-two and then sent a low strike at goal as Empoli rapidly moved the ball in the final third and found space in the Juventus penalty area. But Perin was just too close, and he swiftly deflected it and made a nice stop.
Juventus hasn’t produced a good chance in the closing third. They appeared to lack creativity when entering the attacking zone, and the Empoli defense handled everything expertly.
Weah was on the edge of the penalty area when the ball fell to him after a Juventus corner. He attempted a first-time shot towards goal, but his effort was well wide of the Empoli net.
