Milan continued their form at San Siro against Lecce. The Rossoneri scored 3 goals in the 5 minutes and kept Lecce at bay for the whole game despite being down to 10-men in late game.
Abraham was sent free by Leao’s excellent throughball down the left wing, and he used a backheel from the byline to flick the pass back toward Hernandez but he failed to hit the mark. Krstovic attempted a low shot toward the bottom corner, but Maignan cut it out for a corner as the striker dove to his left and palmed away a goal-bound attempt.
A promising Milan effort was cut short by the referee’s whistle after Abraham inadvertently handled the ball in Lecce’s area. Then, at full pace, Lecce shot out down the other end, forcing Maignan to cut off a dangerous low cross from Rebic.
Leao broke quickly down the left, and Abraham was in the box when the winger found him with a crossfield pass. Gaspar calmly chested the cross back to his goalkeeper, Falcone, after the latter clipped it along the six-yard box.
Rebic gave Lecce another chance to score when he bounced the ball behind Gabbla. However, it was in vain as Malgnan blasted the ball forward to start a Milan counterattack. Baschirotto clearly fouled by leveraging over Leao, who was in full flight but a little off balance. He received the first booking of the game today as a result.
At San Siro, Morata gave the Rossoneri a 1-0 lead. Leao won foul and from a lofted free-kick from the left that Hernandez curled, Morata flicked it past Falcone with a superb header and openend the deadlock of the match.
2-0 in favor of Milan! Hernandez and Leao teamed for a productive left-flank link-up. Hernandez sprinted into the six-yard box and smashed an unstoppable shot into the top of the net after Leao dropped deeper and fed him and beautiful through ball.
For Milan, Pulisic made it three. What a magnificent spell at San Siro for the Rossoneri. They quickly secured a 3-0 lead after Pulisic pounced to convert a rebound after Abraham first tried a shot off the right-hand post, and then Falcone stopped his second attempt at from close range. Milan netted three goals in five minutes.
Amazingly, Milan missed a chance to score four goals prior to halftime when Hernandez intercepted a careless pass from Gaspar out of the back and Leao charged down. Hernandez gathered the ball once more, but this time he drove it into Lecce’s goal’s side net.
The game’s first goalscorer, Morata, was given a rest for the last 30 minutes after being doubtful for today’s encounter owing to a minor injury getting substituted by Loftus-Cheek.
After yet another extended Milan possession period, Reijnders, who was always having trouble maintaining his balance, made it to the edge of the box before launching the ball well over the crossbar.
Lecce recorded a long-awaited attempt on goal in a rare attack when former Milan player Rebic got the ball from Krstovic, tuned, and scuffed his low shot straight at Maignan.
Lecce was still waking up when Gallo managed to get to the left byline and cut back a low cross, only to have it marked as offside. When the ball was recycled just outside Milan’s area after a Rebic header, Ramadani set himself up for a 20-yard goal. He strikes it hard and true, but Maignan lowered herself to shield it.
Dorgu foolishly turned Musah’s errant cross behind him for a corner. But the set-piece that followed was in vain because Abraham was eventually called for fouling Gallo.
The substitute reached the right byline and attempted to bring a ball back into Lecce’s six-yard box, but Loftus-Cheek clipped the crossbar. Instead, the ball sailed off the top of the goal frame and fell safely.
Lecce hits the woodwork. Banda gets a ball from Ramadani inside the box and attempts to score first, but his shot misses the right post.
A reckless two-footed tackle by Bartesaghi – who had only just arrived on the pitch – sent Banda spiraling to the turf. The referee didn’t hesitate, showing the young defender a red card. Milan left with 10-men on pitch.
