Daniele De Rossi and Paolo Vanoli both made their debuts in a captivating 2-2 draw, as Genoa and Fiorentina battled to an exciting stalemate, highlighted by a penalty save from David De Gea.
Genoa seized the advantage when Aaron Martin delivered a long free kick that sailed over the top, capitalizing on a defensive error from Fiorentina, which left Leo Ostigard with an unchallenged header from six yards.

The Tuscans reacted as Roberto Piccoli’s attempted tap-in was deflected, leading to a corner where Lorenzo Colombo mishandled the ball awkwardly. Gudmundsson rose to the occasion, despite the loud jeers, and skillfully converted the penalty against his former club, sending it into the top corner.
Rolando Mandragora, fully extended, was unable to gain control of a threatening cross from Niccolò Fortini on the left, which permitted Nicola Leali to make the save.
Alessandro Marcandalli directed his header straight into the arms of David De Gea following a cross from Martin.
Straight after the restart, Martin delivered another free kick into the box, and Ranieri misjudged the situation, failing to make contact with the ball, which then ricocheted up onto his arm. Colombo approached the spot and witnessed his penalty being deflected off the line by De Gea preventing Genoa from taking lead.

Fiorentina quickly capitalized on the situation, with Gudmundsson winning a tackle in midfield, allowing Simon Sohm to set up Piccoli, who successfully beat Leali in a one-on-one encounter. This marked the striker’s inaugural Serie A goal of the season while wearing the Viola jersey.
Genoa responded promptly, as another Martin free kick ignited a frantic scramble, leading to Colombo successfully sweeping the ball in from the ground at a distance of 10 yards.
Piccoli came close to regaining the lead for Fiorentina with a stunning turn and shot from a challenging angle, thwarted only by a remarkable save from Leali.
De Gea was forced into a frantic one-handed save during stoppage time, as Patrizio Masini unleashed a half-volley on the turn that nearly caught the seasoned goalkeeper off guard.
