With a crucial 4-0 victory over Empoli on Friday night, Juventus made it two victories in three Serie A contests thanks to goals from Moise Kean, Weston McKennie, and midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
After a strong showing at the Allianz Stadium, Juventus closed the gap on the league’s European spots, which relieves pressure on their under-fire manager.
After dropping to mid-table earlier in the season, the 36-time Italian league champions have struggled to find consistency this year. With the victory, Juventus has now won five games in a row.
Within the first ten minutes, Kean, an Everton loanee, scored his first league goal in 20 Serie A appearances by converting a Filip Kosti cross with his much-missed strikers instinct. Empoli made an effort to respond in the first half with their own opportunities, but they were unable to create any sizeable opportunities that appeared capable of bringing them even.
15 minutes into the second half, American McKennie doubled Juventus’ lead with a powerful header from a corner that rendered Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario helpless. The Old Lady felt relief as Juventus gained some breathing room.
The routine match between one of the Serie A’s giants and the league minnows was enjoyed by the dejected travellers while the Lions held the lion’s share of possession. Only three shots on goal were made by Paolo Zanetti’s team the entire game.
Summer vacation Adrien Rabiot, who was on the verge of joining Manchester United during the most recent transfer window, secured all three points for his team by heading in a floating cross at the back-post. Vicario struggled to reach it with a hand but was unable to stop the attempt.
The visitors were done. As for Juventus, no. Just 12 minutes later, Rabiot scored again to give the hosts a commanding victory. The victory on Friday can be summed up as Juventus’ most unified performance of the year, with Allegri’s team threatening to dispel early sceptics.
Through many years of title dominance, fans have been starved of the game-winning football that their team has provided. But with only six games left before the Qatar World Cup, beating Empoli can serve as a springboard for even better things.
When the final whistle blows, Juve scores one more goal to beat Empolil by a score of four. In the second half, The Old Lady excelled, scoring three well-executed goals and having one goal disallowed for offside. McKennie and Rabiot both headed in Cuadrado’s crosses, with Rabiot adding the winning goal in stoppage time. The Bianconeri needed a big win to turn their stuttering season’s start around, and Empoli imploded at the back as the half went on.
