Napoli is already off to a great start after defeating Verona 5-2 last weekend, and they now have the home field advantage against Monza, one of Serie A up-and-comers.
After losing to Torino in their inaugural match in the Serie A, the visitors will now face an even tougher task away from one of the title favorites.
Despite trailing by one goal in the 29th minute last weekend, the Partenopei gave a stellar performance away at Verona. In the 37th minute, Kvaratskhelia scored for the visitors to tie the game, and Osimhen’s goal in first-half stoppage time gave away side a 2-1 lead at the break. Early in the second half, Verona did manage to tie the score again, but goals from Zielinski, Lobotka, and Politano sealed a 5-2 victory for Napoli in the end.
When Monza played Torino last weekend, they would have hoped to use their home ground advantage to help them earn their first ever Serie A points. However, the visitors led 1-0 going into halftime and then doubled their lead in the 66th. Monza persisted and eventually scored through Mota in stoppage time, and there was not enough time left to score an equalizer, so the final score was 2-1.
For good reason, Napoli is the clear favorite to win this weekend. The home team is by far the stronger of the two teams; they started the season strong last year and won their first game on opening weekend. Monza has never played against a team with Napoli’s caliber and skill.
