After reversing the opening Sandi Lovric goal, Monza believed they had done enough to earn all three points, but a late Beto penalty kept Udinese in the game.
Two early penalty appeals by the visitors for handling by Jaka Bijol and a collision between Rodrigo Becao and Mattia Valoti were rejected. When Sandi Lovric raced onto a daring Walace through ball and beat Michele Di Gregorio one on one, Udinese broke the scoreless tie.
With two right-foot strikes from the area’s edge that Di Gregorio had to scramble across to deflect around the base of the upright, for Udinese Lovric came close to scoring again shortly after. Lazar Samardzic also had a long shot blocked by Pablo Mari.
When Carlos Augusto pulled back from the left to set up Colpani’s low volley from ten yards out to start the second half as Monza equalised in style.
After Mattia Valoti regained possession, they completely changed the game on the counterattack. Stefano Sensi delivered a pass from right, and Rovella only had to take a simple shot in for his first Serie A goal.
When Carlos Augusto was sliding in and Andrea Petagna’s angled shot flashed inches from the far post, Rovella should have done better than to head Patrick Ciurria’s cross off target. While Petagna wasted yet another promising counterattack, Di Gregorio hurried outside of his penalty area to clear from Beto.
Petagna unintentionally collided with Nestorovski, who had also taken step backward, in the final minute, and the referee gave Udinese a penalty. To equalise, Beto sent Di Gregorio in the wrong direction.
