After being dismissed from his position as manager of Napoli this morning, Rudi Garcia boarded an aircraft to depart the Italian club and head back to France.
After the disheartening 1-0 setback that Napoli suffered at the hands of Empoli on Sunday, the 59-year-old head coach’s position was doomed to be eliminated, but it had appeared to be just a matter of time given the team’s poor start to the season.
Luciano Spalletti made the decision to step down from his position as head coach of Napoli in the summer, which led to the subsequent appointment of Garcia as the club’s new manager. Garcia signed a two-year contract for €2.8 million net per season for the position. If he is fired during his first season, the club has the option to get out of his contract in June of the following year according to a clause that was inserted.
The club is currently working on bringing in his replacement, and the current front-runner for the position is Igor Tudor, who has previously coached for Olympique Marseille and Hellas Verona.
