Atalanta vs Pisa

Atalanta 1-1 Pisa: Scamacca on scoresheet but Pisa hold out

Atalanta started the Ivan Juric era with a disappointing stalemate against new boys Pisa, despite Gianluca Scamacca scoring his first Serie A goal in more than a year.

After initially being under siege, Pisa not only calmed down but also took the lead when Isak Hien unintentionally bundled an Idrissa Toure cross across his own line first after Samuele Angori had knocked it down at the far post for Henrik Meister.

At the far stick, Raoul Bellanova attempted to nod in a cross from Nicola Zalewski but was stopped by a clear deflection off a Pisa defender.

Instead, Marco Carnesecchi’s header from Moreo was palmed away from under the crossbar on Angori’s cross, and Pisa almost extended their advantage seconds later.

After attempting to acrobatically control a ball from Charles De Ketelaere over the top, Daniel Maldini lost his footing, but Scamacca pulled Atalanta even after the restart.

The striker took a touch to commit the defender after gathering from Mario Pasalic, and from 12 yards out, he bent the finish into the far bottom corner with his right foot. After tearing his ACL in August 2024, it was his first goal in Serie A in more than 450 days.

Scamacca’s soaring header struck the crossbar, and Berat Djimsiti, in an advanced role, shot over while off balance after bouncing off a defender. All of a sudden, it was all Atalanta.

When Daniel Maldini slipped the offside trap to go one-on-one, Adrian Semper fingertipped a Bellanova header over from another Zalewski cross, but the goalie held his feet for an incredible save.
