With their 2-0 triumph over Verona, Bologna extended their winning streak to five games and rose to fourth place in Serie A.
Bologna came out on top at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara thanks to goals from Giovanni Fabbian and Remo Freuler just before halftime.
The win extended Bologna’s impressive streak of form, which has included victories over Sassuolo, Lecce, Fiorentina, and Lazio. It also sparked their pursuit of a UEFA Champions League spot, though they still face tough tests ahead with matches against league leaders Inter and Atalanta.
With this loss, Verona’s winless streak reaches six games, and they are now 18th in the league, just above the relegation zone.
From the start, Thiago Motta’s team had the upper hand. In the 27th minute, they scored off a corner kick to break the tie.
After a deep swing, Riccardo Orsolini did admirably to retain possession of the ball in the penalty area before sending it whizzing back across goal, where Fabbian was poised to bundle it home.
With few clear-cut opportunities, the game was still in the balance with under thirty minutes to go. However, the hosts doubled their lead in the 65th minute.
Fabbian set up Remo Freuler for a first-time volley that beat Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo as he scrambled to collect the ball.
The visitors were dangerous all the way to the end, especially throughout the half, and they should have won.
In the 89th minute, following a great counter-attack from a Bologna corner, Thomas Henry appeared to have scored what would have been an exciting final goal for Marco Baroni’s team.
Lukasz Skorupski kept a clean sheet and sealed a sixth consecutive victory after receiving a pass from the Frenchman with the goal at his fingertips from close range.
