Lazio demonstrated their offensive prowess once more as they remained calm in Florence and defeated Fiorentina 4-0.
The Biancocelesti were eager to make up for their tense draw with Sturm Graz last week in Tuscany, and the team displayed good spirit as they battled for all three points on a warm Florence evening. The 3-0 victory over Hearts in their most recent game gave Fiorentina confidence going into the visit from the Roman club.
Fiorentina had the better of the opening exchanges, but Lazio soon gained the upper hand when Matias Vecino’s glancing header from a Mattia Zaccagni corner found the back of the net.
Following a nice pass from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Zaccagni was rewarded with his own goal 14 minutes later as the away team maintained their momentum.
Although Ivan Provedel was unbeatable and his defenders worked hard to reduce the number of chances on goal, the Viola never gave up and fought valiantly to try and score their own goal.
With less than five minutes remaining, Luis Alberto scored a well-placed goal, and Ciro Immobile added another goal in extra time to make it 4-0. This secured all three points for Sarri’s team after another strong defensive effort.
