The new Serie A season got off to a winning start for Inter, but only just against newly promoted Lecce. The Italian powerhouses play Spezia this weekend in their first home game of the season.
Last weekend, Lukaku made his second debut for Inter and scored after just two minutes thanks to some excellent work from Darmian, who received the assist. Inter led 1-0 at the half thanks to that score, but Lecce scored early in the second half to tie the score. When it appeared that the newly promoted team would earn an unexpected point thanks to that goal, Dumfries surged forward in stoppage time and scored the winner for the visitors.
The match between Spezia and Empoli was always going to be close, tense, and fiercely contested because the two teams have recently played out a number of draws. But this time, there would be a victor, and all it took was a single goal in the first half from M’Bala Nzole for Spezia to win all three points in their inaugural match of the new season.
In their previous four meetings with Spezia, Inter has come out on top three times, and in three of those four games, both teams have scored. Five of Nerazzuri’s last six games, including their league opener against Lecce, saw both teams score, and four of Spezia’s most recent six games saw goals from both ends of the field as well.
