Inter returned to the top of the Serie A standings with a perfect record after defeating Frosinone thanks to two goals scored in quick succession before and after halftime.
Federico Dimarco and Hakan Calhanoglu scored for Inter in their match against Frosinone in the Italian Serie A competition on Sunday evening, and the result was a 2-0 victory for Inter. The win was a relatively easy one for Internazionale to come away with. The first goal was scored by Dimarco just two minutes before the break, and then Calhanoglu converted a penalty kick in the 48th minute to double the advantage for the home team.
Despite the fact that the away team put up a strong defense and made a respectable offensive challenge of their own, they were a yard shorter, slightly slower, and sufficiently less mature than the giants from Milan, so they were never really in a position to threaten them.
Although Inter had the majority of possession and came the closest to scoring in the first forty minutes of the game, Frosinone kept themselves in the game owing to some solid running, compact defending, and creative play from Juventus loanee Matia Soule and Anthony Oyono. Inter had the most of possession and came the closest to scoring.
Just before the break for the half, there was a stroke of genius that led to the breakthrough. Federico Di Marco ran back 10 yards after picking up the ball in the Inter half of the field and then unleashing a ferocious shot on goal. After that, everyone else in the stadium saw how far off his line the Frosinone keeper was, as well as how accurate Di Marco’s shot was, as the ball dipped perfectly over a sprawling Stefano Turati. Di Marco’s strike had won the game for Frosinone.
Within a few minutes of the game being restarted, Inter had extended their lead by two goals. Marcus Thuram stole the ball from under Caleb Okoli’s boots, dribbled his way into the penalty area while dodging challenges, and was finally brought down by Ilario Monterisi, earning a clear penalty for his team. The penalty kick was executed with precision by Hakan Calhanolu, who directed it to Stefano Turati’s left.
Frosinone kept their heads up despite the daylight that separated them from their opponents, but they were unable to make their way back into the game.
The goalkeeper for Inter, Yann Sommer, was forced to make a stop by a thunderous strike from the substitute Ibrahimovic, but the ball never had a chance of getting past him at the near post.
Davide Frattesi came close to adding a third goal to Inter’s tally, but the game concluded with Inter leading 2-0. The young Frosinone team struggled in the latter stages of the game.
