Juventus celebrated a comfortable opening win against Como thanks to surprise starters Mbangura, Weah and Cambiaso.

Andrea Cambiaso’s cross was headed past the near post by Dusan Vlahovic, but Como lost Daniele Baselli early on with an adductor injury.

It was the surprise starter who scored the opening goal, as Mbangura cut in from the left wing and fired a right-footed shot into the bottom corner, sending Juventus fans into a frenzy.

Yildiz tested Pepe Reina from distance before Vlahovic’s long-range free-kick peeled away a layer of paint at the near post.

Moments later, Como were caught in a scramble while playing out from the back and Vlahovic pounced on the ball from a tight angle, only for it to be deflected inside the far post by a desperate lunge from Federico Barba.

Just before half-time, Kenan Yildiz broke through down the left wing, dropped back from the baseline and took advantage of Vlahović’s deception to pass to Tim Weah, who smashed a left-footed shot under the crossbar from 12 metres out. Weah scored his first Serie A goal with Juventus while battling muscle problems, giving Cambiaso a more advanced role in place of Juventus youngster Nicolò Savona.

Within 30 seconds of the restart, Juve had the ball in the net again, Vlahović headed in a Juan Cabal cross from the left, but the video assistance referee callled it off as he was in an offside position. Vlahovic was unlucky again when his initial shot from close range was saved by Reina and his follow-up shot bounced off the post.

Cambiasso failed to make the most of a failed backpass from Alberto Moreno, while Como were extremely unlucky to lose Oliver Abdirgaard to injury following a red flag foul by Manuel Locatelli just six minutes into his Serie A debut.

Juventus appealed for a penalty for Barba’s handball, but it could not realistically count as a penalty as the Como defender accidentally kicked the ball into his own hand while controlling a cross.

Gabriel Strefezza’s shot was just wide, but in added time Cambiasso cut in from the right wing and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area to score the third goal.
