Ivan Provedel, the goalkeeper for Lazio, scored with the very last touch of the game to earn his team a 1-1 draw at home against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Group E encounter.
Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel scored an equalizer in the very last minute of their match against Atletico Madrid, making for a jaw-dropping finish to the action-packed contest. The Italians were behind after a goal scored by Pablo Barrios in the first half that was deflected, and it appeared that they were going to suffer a disappointing loss. However, Provedel scored an incredible equalizer deep in stoppage time, which led to ecstatic celebrations.
Lazio was in do or die situation when a corner kick went back to Luis Alberto just outside the outside of the penalty area. Luis Alberto then curled in a cross, and Provedel climbed magnificently to head it in.
Atletico Madrid appeared to have a good chance of winning the match at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome thanks to a deflected drive from Pablo Barrios that was scored in the first half.
The undermanned team coached by Diego Simeone did not have much of an opportunity to control the ball in the first third of the match; but, just before the half-hour mark, they took the lead after a midfielder’s shot hit the leg of Japanese player Daichi Kamada, leaving Provedel with little chance to save it. Following the score, Barrios displayed a shirt bearing the name of injured midfielder Thomas Lemar, who is scheduled to undergo surgery on his Achilles tendon in the coming days.
Ciro Immobile had the finest opportunity for Lazio to draw level before the late drama when an erroneous clearance by Jan Oblak made its way to him inside the penalty area. However, Immobile’s shot was relatively weak, and the Slovenian goalkeeper was able to easily block it.
When the ball came to rest for Samuel Lino inside the penalty area, Atletico had the opportunity to expand their lead, but Provedel made a great play to prevent it.
