At San Siro, Milan suffered defeat against strong Liverpool side. Despite a good start to the game Rossoneri were unable to hold off Liverpool attack.
Leao released Reijnders, which allows Milan to play through Liverpool down the left all too easy. He gets behind the defence and squares for Morata, but before the offside flag is raised, Van Dijk was there to hook the ball off the goal line.
Pulisic’s break into free space down the right. Though he has options to his left, he isn’t stopped in time, and he shoots across the goal’s face, past Alisson, and into the bottom corner. Milan lead 1-0, and Liverpool is already facing challenges.
The ball breaks for Milan as Reijnders and Morata in quick succession due to loose possession at the back, but the Liverpool defense is able to recover each time.
Jota plays Salah into the box as a result of excellent Liverpool play. With the woodwork still trembling, he strides past Pavlovic and attempts a right-footed shot towards goal, but the ball explodes back off the crossbar and Tsimikas heads the rebound over.
Despite initially appearing to have won the ball, Milan’s captain is booked for severe contact as Calabria slides in and gives Gakpo a hard challenge that results in a free kick on the left side of Milan’s box.
Liverpool’s free kick brings the score to even. Alexander-Arnold whips in a cross from the left, and Konate perfectly timed his jump to force a header into the far corner despite Tomori and Maignan going up for the ball. 1-1 in San Siro, and the match is back on.
Mac Allister snatches the ball from Maignan in midfield, propels himself forward, and feeds Jota ahead of him, but the Portuguese misses the mark from close range.
Alexander-Arnold barely makes it to the byline in time to curl a low cross back to Salah, whose snap shot with his left foot goes straight into Maignan’s arms.
Gakpo drives into the area and attempts a cross-goal, but Maignan palms the ball out of the goalmouth. It finds its way to Salah, but Hernandez hacks it clear after it rattled the crossbar once again and bounces off Maignan.
After a Milan attack collapses, Liverpool advances at a dizzying pace, with Jota swishing the ball over to Salah. He cuts in to curl a shot from the edge of the box toward goal, but Maignan dives to block it from his bottom-left corner.
Van Dijk rises high at the near post to head past a motionless Maignan from close range as Tsimikas’s corner is spot on. Minutes before halftime, the visitors were rewarded with theirdominancen as the score is 2-1.
Pulisic is targeted by Leao’s cross into the middle, but the referee waves play on as Pulisic falls to the ground at the far post as Tsimikas applies pressure.
High up the pitch, Liverpool shift the ball, and Gakpo squares for Jota. Maignan does a good job of closing the gap and parrying the forward’s close-range shot, but he has been down since and will undoubtedly be replaced right now. After making every effort to continue, Maignan is eventually replaced, and young player Torriani makes his debut despite having a Champions League match to worry about.
When Salah crosses the ball, Szoboszlai chests it down and it falls nicely for him to shoot, but Torriani saves and holds his left-footed effort.
Play stops after Morata, under pressure from Gakpo, hits the deck after Pavlovic’s cross-field ball into the area. Although there is a foul and the referee blows his whistle, Morata is given a handball instead of Milan receiving a penalty.
Hernandez charges forward and sends a low cross into the middle, but Morata, who isn’t marked, is unable to get a hand on it, causing the ball to go wide.
With their third goal on the break, Liverpool virtually secures three points. With a fast toss over possession, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai send Gakpo hurtling down the left wing. Szoboszlai volleys home from close range after the Dutchman cuts a ball back into the middle to make it 3-1.
Leao flashes the Liverpool defender a clean set of heels as he charges past Konate and enters the box. Gravenberch slides across in cover to send the ball behind for a corner as he cuts the ball back from the byline.
Abraham spreads the ball wide to Emerson, starting a counterattack for Milan. He passes it to Morata, but the striker misses the mark with his first attempt from the edge of the area.
After Pulisic gets space on the right and sends a low cross into the middle, Hernandez’s low effort on the follow-up flashes across the face of goal and just wide after Reljnders’ attempt is blocked by both Liverpool center-backs.
