Milan and Pisa play to a 2-2 draw in Serie A as Athekame scores in the 93rd minute to give Milan the victory.
On Friday, Zachary Athekame scored a goal with a long-range shot in the final minute of injury time to save a 2-2 draw for AC Milan, the leader of Serie A, against Pisa, the club that is currently in last place. This prevented what would have been the most unexpected outcome of the Italian league season up to this point.
Athekame was approximately ten yards outside the area when the ball was played to him following a corner kick; however, his low shot found its way through traffic and inside the near post to prevent Pisa from achieving their first victory at Milan since 1981.
Following a 34-year absence from the top tier, the newly promoted team has not yet been able to win a game since making their return to the top tier this season.
Pisa equalized the score after Juan Cuadrado scored from the penalty spot after an hour of play. Milan came into the game as a large favorite and seized the lead because Rafael Leão scored after only seven minutes. However, Pisa’s Juan Cuadrado replied after an hour.
After M’Bala Nzola successfully controlled a long ball and then stroked it under the goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Pisa took the lead with five minutes remaining. This was a moment that seemed to have the potential to cause a big shock.
The goal scored by Athekame in the third minute of injury time allowed AC Milan to go two points ahead of Inter, Napoli, and Roma in the standings before the games that will take place this weekend.
