At San Siro, Milan secured their first victory of the season in a dominating way. Scoring 4 goals in first half and having command over the game for whole 90 minutes.
It was Theo Hernandez’s chance at atonement. Re-assigned to the starting lineup today, he gave the Rossoneri a 1-0 lead at San Siro while donning the captain’s armband. The flying full-back rushed into the box and forced a low shot past Joronen at the near post after connecting with Rafael Leao down the left.
Pulisic sets Reijnders up on the perimeter of the area, and from less than twenty yards out, he snap shoots the first defender. Then, both Milan’s offensive and Venezia’s quick response collapse.
Oristanio deflected the ball out of the air, pivoted, and shot across goal at an angle in one motion. Though Maignan scrambled down to try to meet the ball, it drifted a few inches wide of the right-hand post despite his fine effort.
Milan prevailed 2-0. A flip by Fofana allowed the ball to go past Joronen and into the back of the net after Pulisic sent a corner soaring into the six-yard box. The frenchman scored his first goal for the Rossoneri.
With a stray gloved left hand, Joronen brought down Abraham after spilling the ball in his six-yard box. The English striker doesn’t need any hint to hit the turf.
After Joronen fouled Abraham, Pulisic went up to the spot and calmly placed his penalty kick into the bottom-right corner of the net, ending the game as a contest. At San Siro, Venezia was fading away under the floodlights as the Rossoneri led 3-0 already.
After a clumsy challenge by Schingtienne, Rafael Leao went to the ground, and the VAR stepped in after his initial penalty claim was denied. After giving the monitor a quick glance, the referee decided that the home team should receive another penalty.
For Milan, it was all too simple. Abraham was given the opportunity to score from the penalty spot this time. He stepped up to Joronen and rolled his shot into the lower corner with assurance.
In what appeared to be a harmless midfield challenge, Hernandez was caught by Oristanio and left on the grass. Leao, played in by a sharp Loftus-Cheek throughball, heads to the boundary before attempting to score. Joronen made a deft stop low to his right to deny him a goal.
Pulisic curled over a right-wing free-kick, and Gabbia met it with his head at the back post. However, the ball was already headed wide as Joronen leaped over and palmed it away for a Milan corner.
Abraham’s header slipped into a hazardous area between the goalie and Venezia’s defense after Leao threw the ball into the box for him, but Zampano quickly reacted and headed the ball back to Joronen.
Duncan was able to swing a left-wing free-kick into the box after Nicolussi Caviglia abruptly moved away. But the ball got too near to Maignan, who moved forward to catch it in the night air.
A cross from Candela’s right was partially cleared by Emerson, causing the ball to strike Busio before falling neatly for Zampano. He steadied himself and stroked a low shot beyond Maignan from about ten yards away. However, the VAR started a review, so the festivities were cut short.
After a review at pitchside, the referee declared Zampano’s strike out of bounds. Nicolussi Caviglia overran the ball during the build-up, raked his studs down Loftus-Cheek’s shin, and was handed a red card for the brutal challenge.
Zampano found Doumbia down the left, but Milan’s counterattack was halted by a hard touch, allowing Venezia to retaliate. In the end, all was in vain as the Rossoneri approached their first three-point victory of the season.
