The Roma crisis reached new heights following a 3-2 home loss to Bologna, where Stephan El Shaarawy’s brace was insufficient to block Ivan Juric’s impending dismissal.
Mile Svilar was directly hit by Juan Miranda’s long-range volley, and Riccardo Orsolini’s risky ball flashed across the face of goal for Bologna, but two teammates sliding in missed the mark. Rather, Dan Ndoye had to be carried off after colliding with the upright with his shin.
Despite Zeki Celik’s presence, Bologna took the lead from a corner when Jhon Lucumi flicked on Orsolini’s set play, allowing Santiago Castro to bundle across the line.
Manu Koné immediately gave Roma a near-equalizer by sprinting down the left and pulling back for Matias Soulé, who was stumbling and unsteady as he steered it into the underside of the bar from eight yards out.
Six yards following the restart, Karlsson wasted a chance when he got the Miranda pull-back stuck under his feet, and Stephan El Shaarawy’s free kick missed the mark.
Shortly after, Roma equalized through a looping header from El Shaarawy on a Gianluca Mancini cross from the right that slid into the far bottom corner after Skorupski was unable to make the stop.
However, Roma rushed forward and created enormous gaps at the back, so it lasted little more than three minutes. The Castro cross-field pass in middle set up Orsolini’s run, and he cut inside for the left-foot finish that looped over a defenseless Svilar after deflecting off Angelino.
On minute 72, Dallinga had the ball in the net for Bologna, but only after being hit on the arm by Ndicka’s interception of the Orsolini strike. Additionally, Evan Ndicka tested Skorupski with a volley on a corner.
It was merely a warning because shortly after Karlsson finished a give-and-go with Miranda down the left, his angled drive wriggled under Svilar’s body, giving Bologna a 3-1 lead.
With an incredible right-footed strike into the far top corner from a very difficult angle, El Shaarawy was the last to concede and brought the score back to 3-2.
Dovbyk missed a fresh-air shot on the Eldor Shomurodov move across from the right, which would have made it 3-3.
