Following losing starts the previous weekend, Sassuolo and Lecce will be motivated to win this coming Saturday. After spending a few years in Serie B, Lecce is back in the top division this year. In their opening matchup against Inter, they came close to earning a point.
On the first weekend of the new season, Sassuolo travelled to Turin to take on Juventus, but they were unsuccessful in their mission. After 26 minutes, Juve’s new acquisition Di Maria gave them the lead. Just before halftime, a Vlahovic penalty gave them a two-goal lead. The young Serbian striker scored his second goal of the match in the 51st minute to help the home team secure a convincing 3-0 victory early in the second forty-five.
Last weekend, Lecce’s return to Serie A ended in heartbreak. After only two minutes, Inter Milan took the lead, and the home crowd must have feared the worst. Lecce, on the other hand, reacted admirably and, through Ceesay, managed to draw even three minutes into the second half. Lecce appeared to have done enough as the clock ran out to hold off the powerful Inter Milan, but in stoppage time, Dumfries stole all three points for the visitors.
Sassuolo and Lecce have scored in three of their previous four meetings, including their most recent meeting in 2020, which resulted in a 4-2 victory for Sassuolo. In four of Sassuolo’s last six games, both teams have scored, whereas in three of Lecce’s last five games, both teams have scored.
Possible Lineup for Sassuolo: Consigli, Ayhan, Ferrari, Kiriakopoulos, Rogério, Toljan, Henrique, Frattesi, Thorstvedt, Defrel & Berardi
