Torino shocked Udinese at home, winning all three points at the Dacia Arena behind Ola Aina and Pietro Pellegri.
The Friulani were undefeated in 9 Serie A games, but they had just been eliminated from the Coppa Italia by Monza the previous week. Adam Masina was injured, Rodrigo Becao was serving a suspension, and Torino had Antonio Sanabria back on the bench following the loss to Juventus in the Derby della Mole.
Sasa Lukic intercepted the rebound after Marco Silvestri only parried a sharp Aleksei Miranchuk shot. Soon after, Nikola Vlasic outran Lazar Samardzic on the left and pulled back from the byline. Miranchuk laid it off, and Ola Aina just managed to pass into the far bottom corner from 12 yards, giving Toro the lead. Aina has only scored twice in Serie A in his career, and both of those goals came against Udinese.
When Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and David Zima failed to realise Destiny Udogie was ready to intercept their back-passing manoeuvre, Gerard Deulofeu was given the opportunity to score the equaliser and his shot skimmed the far post.
At the near post, Valentino Lazaro was denied twice by Marco Silvestri, and Jaka Bijol’s header off of a Deulofeu free kick tested Milinkovic-Savic.
With the help of Isaac Success’ back-heel flick, Deulofeu finished a give-and-go and compelled Milinkovic-Savic to make a close-range save.
Toro regained the lead, though, thanks to Pietro Pellegri’s brilliant cushioned volley of a pass from Nemanja Radonjic, who held off Bijol to shock Silvestri at the near post.
Ilija Nestorovski mishandled a volley and Beto missed a chance to score, but Milinkovic-Savic made a stunning fingertip save on Beto in stoppage time to hand Udinese their first loss since the opening weekend against Milan.
