This past Sunday afternoon at the Allianz Stadium, Genoa, who are currently in the middle of the standings, held Juventus to a scoreless draw.
Due to this result, Juve remain in third place in the Serie A table. There were just two attempts on target for the home team, and they were unable to capitalize on the limited opportunities they created.
Dusan Vlahovic received a late red card after fouling and expressing his displeasure during stoppage time, made their situation worse.
Moise Kean had the finest opportunity to win the game for the Bianconeri just before the referee blew his whistle. When Juventus was making a concerted effort to score the game-winning goal, his low shot from the edge of the box was blocked by the left post.
A flicked header by Johan Vasquez put Wojciech Szczesny to the test during the first half of the match. Genoa had several opportunities to score throughout the first half. In spite of this, Juventus’ defensive resoluteness became the defining characteristic of the match as it progressed and they gained more possession. Djed Spence and Vssquez were outstanding, which resulted in a limited number of opportunities for Federico Chiesa, who was not in good shape.
The away team limited Vlahovic’s opportunities to a minimum, exerted a lot of pressure in the middle of the field, and positioned bodies in front of shoots and crosses. A tight back line meant that there was no path through for slide-rule passes, and the penalty area was frequently quite crowded, which meant that there was little opportunity for cute one-twos.
Samuel Iling-Junior, who came on as a substitute, played exceptionally well and had a shot that hit the base of the post. Max Allegri made the substitutions at the hour mark. After recovering from a dislocated toe, club captain Adrien Rabiot also began playing for the team.
Alberto Gilardino, the manager of Genoa, will be the one to leave the happier guy. Given that the match ended in a tie, Juventus have only managed to win one of their previous eight matches in the domestic league. Drawing with the sides of the table in the middle is becoming a habit for them. It was earlier this week when Manager Allegri took them on a training retreat in an effort to shake off the rust; it is possible that additional sessions and unambiguous statements are required.
Juventus’ next league match is away to Lazio in Rome, and they are currently 16 points behind Inter Milan, who are the distant leaders of the league.
