Inter will host Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in San Siro on eight round of Serie A.
The Serie A title race is by far the most competitive of the top five European leagues. Furthermore, AC Milan, the reigning champions, and three of the top four teams are not currently in the top four. Every game between the top seven is now extremely important.
With the knowledge that three points will propel them into the top four, both teams are desperate for a victory. Roma, however, fell to Atalanta in a crucial home match just before the break. They only had five shots on goal compared to 21 for Atalanta. Even worse, Jose Mourinho was dismissed for arguing with the officials.
Inter Milan, on the other hand, is one point back of AS Roma. Three of Simone Inzaghi’s team’s losses have come against elite opposition, all of which have occurred away from home. The Nerazzurri will now play their fourth top team in their eight games, though the fixture list has been cruel to them thus far. But unlike the first three, this one comes from home, which might change their luck.
For Roma, Mourinho will be concerned about the lack of goals. Despite having numerous chances to score against Atalanta, the team was unable to do so. The league’s best offensive player has consistently been Paulo Dybala. The team has some capable forward options, but they urgently need to regain their form.
Lautaro Martinez has led the attack, as he does each season, while Nicolo Barella and Hakan Calhanoglu have split the creative duties. The defence is among the best in Serie A now that Milan Skriniar has decided to stay with the team.
Any logical person would have predicted Inter and Roma to be in the top four before the season began. Dark horses Udinese and Atalanta, however, have shocked everyone by getting the top teams into trouble.
This match is therefore expected to be much more significant than it typically is. Both AS Roma and Inter Milan are in subpar shape going into this match. However, the league has taken note of home form, so Inter Milan might gain from it.
Last year, Simone Inzaghi and Inter came very close to capturing back-to-back championships, but Milan, the city rivals, prevailed. Romelu Lukaku, whose devastating partnership with Lautaro Martinez helped Inter win the Serie A, has given them an extra boost this season. Romelu Lukaku has additionally been sidelined due to a muscle injury. Inzaghi assured the media that the Belgian would make it back in time for the game. Hakan Calhanoglu is also out, and Marcelo Borozovic was hurt while representing Croatia internationally.
Roma’s first championship in 14 years was made possible by Jose Mourinho, who won the UEFA Conference League. Additionally, they added Paulo Dybala, Andrea Belotti, and Georginio Wijnaldum to their roster over the summer. However, Wijnaldum and Dybala have joined injured Stephan El Shaarawy on the operating table. Fortunately, Dybala and El Shaarawy should be available for the Inter match. And if Roma is to leave San Siro with anything, the pair will need to chip in goals.
Predicted Inter Lineup: Handanovic; Skriniar, De Vrij, Bastoni; Dumfries, Barella, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Lautaro Martinez, Dzeko
Predicted Roma Lineup: Patricio; Mancini, Smalling, Vina; MZ Celik, Cristante, Matic, Spinazzola; El Shaarawy, Dybala, Tammy Abraham
