Josip Brekalo now has formally agreed to a permanent transfer from VfL Wolfsburg to Fiorentina after having passed his medical.

The Croatian international is making a comeback to Serie A after spending last season on loan at Torino, where he contributed seven goals and 2 assists in 33 Serie A games. He was available for a bargain deal, reportedly nothing more than a share of a future sell-on fee, as his contract with Wolfsburg was set to expire in June.

The player chose the number 77 jersey and revealed to reporters yesterday that he typically wears the number 7. He wanted to choose a number that would symbolise his desire to “double” his prior performances.

ACF Fiorentina can confirm the acquisition of Josip Brekalo from VfL Wolfsburg on a permanent transfer.

Born in Zagreb (Croatia) on 23 June 1998, the forward came through the youth ranks at Dinamo Zagreb before going on to play for Wolfsburg, Stuttgart and Torino.

He made 33 Serie A appearances for Torino last term, weighing in with seven goals and two assists.

Brekalo has 33 senior Croatia caps and four goals to his name.
