Cameroon 3-3 Serbia : a goal fest at FIFA World Cup 2022

Last Updated on 28/11/2022 by

One of the most exciting games of Qatar 2022 thus far featured Cameroon and Serbia, who both came from behind in a goal-fest that eventually ended level.

Aboubakar, who came off the bench, scored and provided an assist for Cameroon as they tied Serbia after falling behind by two goals in a memorable World Cup match. Mitrovic missed two scoring chances, and Castelletto capitalised on Tolo’s corner to give Cameroon the lead. However, Serbia recovered and scored two goals in the final seconds of the first half to take the lead. Pavlovic converted Tadic’s free-kick past Epassy to score the equalizer, and Milinkovic-Savic then curled a shot into the bottom corner.

Serbia, which was struggling after falling behind, appeared to have won all three points when Mitrovic completed an incredible move before Song made a change. The extra striker, Aboubakar in place of Hongla, was the key. After the 30-year-old was awarded the goal following a VAR review for a delicate chip goal, the substitute then assisted in setting up the equaliser two minutes later. He cut the ball to Choupo-Moting on the right, who had an incredibly simple finish.

Serbia is now in fourth place in Group G, level on points with Cameroon in third, and two points behind Brazil and Switzerland, who will play each other later. On Friday, Cameroon will play Brazil, and Serbia will play Switzerland in the sectional finale.

In the sixth minute, Mitrovic climbed highest inside the Cameroon box and had the first half-chance for Serbia, but his header went over the crossbar. After some excellent work inside the penalty area, Mitrovic created himself another opportunity in the 11th minute, but the Fulham forward’s shot hit the post.

Nicolas N’Koulou created space outside of the Serbia box to give Cameroon its first shooting opportunity in the 16th minute, but the number three’s attempt was going up and up over the crossbar.

When the ball bounced for Mitrovic inside the Cameroon box in the 17th minute, the striker missed a great opportunity by missing the post by a whisker. Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, the goalkeeper for Serbia, then had to stop a shot from Pierre Kunde as Cameroon began to pose problems in the final third after a slow start.

Castelletto scored a goal for Cameroon in the 29th minute of the game after a corner, with N’Koulou flicking the ball in the direction of his teammate.

At the end of the first period, Serbia tied the game once Pavlovic headed a spot kick from Tadic into the bottom corner of the goal. In the 43rd minute, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic had to make a quick save to stop a strike from Kunde.

Shortly after, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic gave Serbia the lead by finding space outside the Cameroon box and smashing the ball past Devis Epassy, who started in goal for Cameroon instead of Andre Onana, who left the team after having a disagreement with Rigobert Song.

In the waning seconds of the first half, Mitrovic attempted a shot that Cameroon was all over in a defensive area, but it deflected wide of the post. In the 53rd minute of the game, Mitrovic scored Serbia’s third goal by sliding the ball into the goal after a superb team move that began with a pass from Andrija Zivkovic.

Choupo-Moting had a chance to respond for Cameroon just before the hour mark, but the Bayern Munich forward was unable to connect on Bryan Mbeumo’s cross.

Aboubakar broke into a forward position and scooped the ball over the advancing goalkeeper in the 64th minute for a second goal for Song’s team. The goal was initially ruled offside, but the VAR review confirmed that it would stand.

When Aboubakar sped down the right before finding Choupo-Moting, who managed to finish into the right bottom corner of the goal, Cameroon tied the score at 3-3.

In the 76th minute, Mitrovic forced a good save from Epassy before Sergej Milinkovic-Savic shot over the crossbar with Serbia looking for a fourth. However, Cameroon was also posing a lot of difficulties at the other end of the field.
