AC Milan defeated Empoli 3-0, with Olivier Giroud scoring his tenth goal of the season from the penalty spot. The victory was a comfortable one for AC Milan.
AC Milan defeated Empoli by a score of 3-0 on Sunday. The goals that were scored by Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Olivier Giroud, and Chaka Traore were the difference. The victory allows Milan to maintain their position at the top of the Serie A table, behind only their rivals Inter Milan and Juventus. Stefano Pioli’s team currently holds the third spot with 39 points. Within the competition for the championship, they are four points behind Juventus, who have a game in hand, and then nine points behind Inter, who are their local rivals.
After getting off to a shaky start, the Rossoneri ultimately found their rhythm and took the lead when Rafael Leao’s excellent run and pass found Ruben Loftus-Cheek, whose first-time shot inside the box found its way into the bottom corner.
After a video assistant referee (VAR) review identified Youssef Maleh’s handball, the team led by Stefano Pioli scored two goals from the penalty spot. By taking a step forward, Giroud was able to successfully kick his spot kick off the underside of the bar.
Before the half, both teams were forced to make substitutes due to injuries. Filippo Ranocchia took over for Tyronne Ebuehi, who was playing for the home team, and Alejandro Jimenez took over for Alessandro Florenzi.
During the second half, Empoli had a number of good chances to score, including a shot by Francesco Caputo that was blocked and a shot by Matteo Cancellieri that was blocked.
However, Milan made it three goals late in the game when substitute Chaka Traore scored a goal by side-footing the ball past the goalkeeper after being played through on goal by Christian Pulisic.
Empoli will continue to be in the relegation zone as a result of this outcome, while The Rossoneri will remain in third position and Inter Milan’s lead at the top of Serie A will be reduced to nine points following this defeat.
