Inter defeated Torino 1-0 at home in Serie A on Saturday thanks to a late goal from Marcelo Brozovic, but they also had to give goalkeeper Samir Handanovic credit for several outstanding saves.
In the 89th minute, following a through ball from Nicolo Barella, Croatian midfielder Brozovic was able to direct the ball past Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from inside the area. With 12 points from six games, Inter are now in third place, two points behind leaders Napoli and bitter rivals Milan.
Romelu Lukaku was injured, which made it difficult for Inter to score against a strong Torino defense. The first 20 minutes of the game were evenly matched, with Torino creating several chances and Inter attempting to build momentum for counterattacks.
In the 20th minute, Nikola Vlasic came close to giving Torino the lead, but Handanovic blocked his shot. With several opportunities against a sluggish Inter defense, Torino came out strong in the second half.
Milan Skriniar had a chance to give Inter the lead with a header in the 75th minute, but Milinkovic-Savic stopped it.
After defeating Torino 1-0 at San Siro, Inter now sits in third place in Serie A. Brozovic turned in Barella’s chipped pass from the edge of the box with a clean finish past Milinkovic-Savic for Simone Inzaghi’s team to score their late winner. For the majority of the game, the visitors were the superior team, but Handanovic kept the Nerazzurri in the game.
Vlasic, a loanee from West Ham, attempted to score for the fourth game in a row but was denied three times by the Inter goalkeeper, who also turned away four other shots that were intended for goal. Sanabria was given a red card for a high arm on Calhanoglu, giving Torino another red card scare, but the decision was overturned.
