SERIE A | SAMPDORIA 1-2 MILAN: 10 MAN MILAN SECURES THE WIN

Olivier Giroud’s penalty gave 10-man AC Milan a deserving 2-1 victory at Sampdoria in Serie A on Saturday, giving them their first away win of the year.

Unbeaten With 14 points from six games, Milan has overtaken Napoli for second place and is now tied with them. Rafael Leao expertly placed forward Junior Messias in the box, and the Brazilian gave the champions the lead with a low shot in the sixth minute.

Milan played well in the first half, but after the break, things became difficult for the visitors when Leao was sent off for receiving a second yellow card for a scissor kick that struck defender Alex Ferrari in the head.

In the 57th minute, Sampdoria’s Serbian midfielder Filip Djuricic headed in a skillful lofted pass from defender Tommaso Augello to take advantage of their numerical advantage.

However, Milan took control again after 10 minutes thanks to Giroud’s penalty kick after home midfielder Gonzalo Villar handled the ball. Sampdoria has two points and is still in the relegation zone.

Despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men, Milan showed grit to defeat Sampdoria 2-1 in their Serie A match. Junior Messias gave the visitors the lead in the opening frame, but VAR disallowed a second goal for Olivier Giroud due to an offside call. After Filip Djuricic tied the game one minute into the second half after Rafael Leao was sent off for a high boot on Alex Ferrari, it appeared that the game would go in the hosts’ favor.

Gonzalo Villar handled in the box, but VAR still gave Milan a penalty, which Giroud converted from the ensuing spot-kick. The Rossoneri held out for a valiant victory as Sampdoria was denied late on by Mike Maignan and the goal post.
