Inter retained their 14-point lead at the top of the league after defeating Empoli at San Siro thanks to a goal scored by Federico Dimarco and a tap-in goal scored by Alexis Sanchez late in the game.
Only six minutes were required to break the tie for Inter. Alessandro Bastoni’s cross found Federico Dimarco on the edge of the penalty area, and he swung the ball left-footed for the first time into the far bottom corner.
Additionally, Bastoni rushed forward to smash his shot into the upright, and Emil Audero flew to palm the dipping strike from Razvan Marin out from under the bar. Bastoni’s shot was also blocked by Audero.
M’Baye Niang’s shot was deflected over, while Nicolò Barella’s shot from a Dimarco cutback went wide. Nicolò Barella had the opportunity to improve his performance, but he failed to do so.
An excellent ball over the top from Barella unleashed Benjamin Pavard, whose half-volley was significantly diverted off target by the courageous defending of Bartosz Bereszynski.
The fact that Lautaro Martinez was unable to generate enough power behind his finish meant that this was the fourth match in a row that he did not find the back of the net.
Denzel Dumfries ultimately doubled Inter’s lead when he got down the right side of the field and flashed a pass across the face of the goal, beyond Thuram, but with Alexis Sanchez ready to convert it into an empty net from six yards out.
