Inter 4-4 Juventus: Thrilling derby end up in a draw

The most thrilling Derby d’Italia in history took place at San Siro, with Inter taking a 4-2 lead against Juventus before being pegged back to 4-4 by a brace from Kenan Yildiz.

With their first opportunity, Inter broke the tie when Marcus Thuram got to the ball before Danilo, kicking his ankle with the attempted clearance after Benjamin Pavard surged down the right and drew back from the by-line. The penalty given by the referee was easily converted in goal by Zielinski.

Juan Cabal floated a ball over the top, and McKennie cushioned it down and across, allowing Dusan Vlahovic to side-foot in from five yards out with a quick bounce. The lead lasted just five minutes and Juventus were back in game with 1-1.

Francisco Conceicao left Henrikh Mkhitaryan standing with a dummy down the right, and he rolled across for Weah to just reroute it from point-blank range, totally turning it around for Juventus as score goes 2-1 in favor of Juventus in the 26th minute.

Conceicao also forced Yann Sommer to make a save at the near post, but Mkhitaryan made up for the earlier mistake by finishing a give-and-go with Thuram, bursting into the area and driving into the bottom corner. This gave Inter the equalizer in the 35th minute.

Despite clipping Di Gregorio’s fingertips, Zielinski converted another penalty after Pierre Kalulu misjudged his clearing and kicked Dumfries in the back of the leg and now Inter were leading the charge with a 3-2 lead over Juventus.

After the restart, Dumfries should have made it 4-2 straight, but Di Gregorio blocked a Federico Dimarco attempt into his path. Moments later, he made up for it by controlling and inserting the angled drive through Cabal’s legs to leave Di Gregorio stranded after a corner was floated towards the back post. This should’ve been enough to seal the game a 4-2 lead for Inter.

Di Gregorio saved Dimarco’s shot and also deflected Nicolò Barella’s volley from under the crossbar.

Substitute Kenan Yildiz was on the counter after McKennie’s pass, and after Dumfries retreated, he precisely angled a drive into the far bottom corner to make it 4-3 in the 71th minute.

It was merely a warning, though, for he scored shortly after with a very similar play, this time touching Conceicao’s floated cross before shooting in at the back post. Making it 4-4 at the final whistle, completing an insane comeback for Juventus.
