Dusan Vlahovic’s early goal was cancelled out by Tammy Abraham as Juventus drew 1-1 with Roma at the Allianz Stadium to drop points in Serie A for the second straight week.
When the Giallorossi came to visit Juventus, coach Massimiliano Allegri has been without Angel Di Maria and started 19-year-old Fabio Miretti in midfield.
The main story leading up to the game was Paulo Dybala’s return to Juventus, where the Argentine would play alongside eventual goal scorer Tammy Abraham for Jose Mourinho’s team. Vlahovic, however, overshadowed the pair in the opening exchanges. The Serbian international opened the scoring for the hosts with a free kick that ricocheted off the underside of the bar 90 seconds into the game.
When Manuel Locatelli surpass Rui Patricio from a distance in the 25th minute, Juventus believed they had doubled their lead. However, VAR intervened and determined that Vlahovic had handled the ball prior to the goal.
For the Old Lady, who had limited Roma to just one shot on goal in the first half, Filip Kostic and Juan Cuadrado were proving to be a huge threat on the counter-attack. After the restart, though, Mourinho’s team began to gain ground as Juve dug in to defend their slim lead.
Roma’s efforts in the second half were rewarded inside the 69th minute. After Lorenzo Pellegrini delivered a deep corner, Paulo Dybala responded with an incredible scissor kick, and Tammy Abraham was waiting towards the far post to move the ball in.
Weston McKennie and newly acquired Arkadiusz Milik were brought on by Allegri, but the Serie A team’s inconsistent start to the season prevented them from regaining the lead.
