After a 1-1 draw at the Allianz Stadium, the top two teams in Italy’s Serie A are still the same as they were before the game. Inter and Juventus were unable to pull ahead of one other.
The highly anticipated Derby d’Italia took place in Turin, and it ended in a 1-1 draw between Juventus and Inter. Both Juventus and Inter’s goals scored by Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez were outstanding. Both goals were scored in the first half, with the Serbian team getting on the board first. However, the teams were unable to pull away from one another and ultimately agreed to a draw following a tense second period. Inter has maintained their lead over Juve atop the standings, which now stands at two points.
Both teams have gotten off to fantastic starts in this season, which drew a lot of attention to this matchup because both teams were trying to land an early season blow that may be significant later on in the season. Typically the heavy hitters in Italy, both teams have begun this season incredibly well.
Both teams came into the game in excellent shape, and the quality that was on exhibit was plenty to suggest that both of these titans of European football are well suited to keep up with the pace of this season’s competition.
In spite of the fact that the first quarter was quite calm, things began to liven up when Dusan Vlahovic struck a shot into the bottom corner. This was after superb effort from the dogged Federico Chiesa.
If the initial goal was meant to put Juventus in a position to break away from the competition, they were in for a massive surprise when, just a few moments later, Lautaro Martinez equalized the score for the away team with a lovely finish.
After spending a significant chunk of the first half in a rather open state of play, both teams came out of the break with a much more conservative approach to the game.
Throughout the entirety of the half, there were very few opportunities, and as the halftime siren approached, it became very evident that both teams were pleased with the outcome.
The competition at the top of Serie A looks like it will be a close one this season, and this outcome would have been received with glee by teams like AC Milan and Napoli, who will be optimistic that they can push strong as more games are played throughout the season.
Both of these teams’ managers will be happy with a draw, but the managers of the other competing teams will be much happier if the teams in first and second place stay within striking distance.
