An agreement between Lazio and Al-Duhail has been finalized, allowing the playmaker Luis Alberto to carry on his career in Qatar following his departure from Lazio.
An announcement regarding the arrival of the Spaniard was made by the Middle Eastern organization via social media.
A contract extension was agreed by Alberto with Lazio during the summer of last year. Something had gone wrong for the former Liverpool player, despite the fact that he had committed his future to the Stadio Olimpico until the year 2027. In the latter stages of his career in Rome, he began to lose favor with both the club’s leadership and the supporters.
There was no feasible way to go back. A proper deal to sell their unsettled ace was something that Lazio had been looking for, and Al-Duhail was willing to comply. To acquire Alberto’s services, the Qatari side proposed a payment of roughly ten million euros. However, Liverpool will receive a percentage of the purchase price for the player.
The Reds were offered a twelve percent share of the future sale of Alberto as part of the sell-on provision that Lazio placed in their agreement to sign him in 2016. According to this information, the Premier League heavyweights will receive approximately €1.2 million as a result of his likely transfer to Al-Duhail clubs.
Alberto spent eight years in Italy, during which time he played for Lazio and made a total of 307 games. The Biancocelesti were able to win the Supercoppa Italiana twice and the Coppa Italia once because to his 52 goals, which played a significant role in their success. Even though he fell from grace in 2024, he is still considered an icon by the club for his time there.
