Juventus defeated Lazio in the quarterfinals of Coppa Italia thanks to the first half goal from Bremer.
Six changes are made by Allegri from the Juventus team that fell to Monza 2-0 over the weekend. Perin replaces Szczesny in goal. Sandro replaces Gatti in the centre of defence, and Cuadrado takes De Sciglio’s place at right wingback. Paredes is replaced in central midfield by Locatelli, and Vlahovic take Kean’s place in front of the goal.
Sarri makes five adjustments to the Lazio squad that tied Fiorentina 1-1. Maximiano takes Provedel’s place in net, and Patric and Lazzari replace Casale and Hysaj in the back. Vecino starts in central midfield in place of Milinkovic-Savic, and Pedro is replaced by Immobile up top.
Juventus has the first half’s opportunity. While Kostic’s initial cross is stopped, his second one finds Cuadrado at the back post. However, the Columbian’s strong effort is stopped and the ball goes out for a corner.
Maximiano is off his line swiftly to restrict the Serbian forward a goal-scoring opportunity and clears the ball out of bounds for a throw-in after a deft pass over the top of Lazio defence nearly plays through Vlahovic.
Lazio had a good chance, but Zaccagni misses with his shot. Immobile finds Anderson after Juventus cheaply gives the ball away in the middle of the field. After the Italian botches the return pass, Zaccagni had possession of the ball on the edge of the box. He placed the ball on his right foot of choice but is unable to get it to bend inside the far post.
Cuadrado crosses in a long ball from the right side’s deep area. Juve succeeds in winning the first header, but as Vlahovic attempts to contest the second bouncing ball, he got penalised for a high boot.
At the edge of the penalty area, Fagioli and Chiesa work well together. When Chiesa gets the ball inside of the penalty area, the Lazio defence challenges him to the ground, but Fabio Maresca dismisses any possible penalty.
Rabiot was unmarked in the penalty area when Kostic whips in a beautiful cross from the left. The Frenchman ought to do better, but his header is directly at Maximiano, who gratefully grasps the ball.
At the 33rd minute, Lazio gets their first shot opportunity, but Anderson’s long-range attempt misses as Perin dives to cover his right-side. Anderson was on the ball once more two minutes later as Lazio attempts to reorganise the field. The Brazilian attempted to cross the ball into the box, but Kostic does a good job of tracking back and stopping it.
Vlahovic received the ball on the edge of the box just before halftime, but the Juve forward rushed to get the shot off, and as a result, his left-footed effort dribbled comfortably wide of the post.
Bremer’s header gave Juventus the lead in the 44th minute. Juve was able to maintain possession of the ball after Lazio twice failed to clear a corner. Bremer receives Kostic’s inch-perfect pass, nicks in front of goalkeeper Maximiano, and heads the ball into an open goal. The goal was upheld despite a VAR offside check.
Chiesa almost plays in Vlahovic with a cute lifted ball in the second half, but the Lazio defence recovered in time to intercept the attempt.
After Lazio were given a free kick at the 51st minute for a handball by Fagioli, Cataldi tried his luck from a long distance. The Italian’s strike was strong but too close to Perin, who easily claimed it.
In the 54th minute, Luis Alberto attempted a long range shot, but it was blocked by a Juventus defender and went out for a corner. Sandro rose well to head away the corner that Alberto delivered.
Cuadrado was beaten by Zaccagni thanks to a skillful one-two, but the Colombian cynically pulled him back and was given a yellow card for the foul. Just after 3 minutes, Zaccagni was booked for the bad foul on Miretti from behind.
The Lazio defenders started to retreat as Kean bore down on goal in the 70th minute, but the Italian made the angle for himself quite narrow, and Maximiano was capable of keeping the ball out at the near post.
In the final 10 minutes of regulation time after Lazio gave the ball away carelessly, Juventus attempted to make a break. Miretti sent a scouting cross-field pass that Di Maria caught. The Argentine gained space, but his outside-of-the-boot attempt to cross missed the goal post.
