On a Sunday, Lazio returned to winning ways with a crucial 2-0 victory over a tough Sassuolo team.
Lazio needed a victory over Sassuolo to turn around a poor start to the season in which they dropped points twice. During their game at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo, Mauricio Sarri’s squad did perform admirably.
In Reggio Emilia, the first half was closely contested, but Lazio eventually won the match after Jeremy Toljan’s handball in the final seconds of the period resulted in a penalty. Just before halftime, Mattia Zaccagni took a shot from the 12-yard line and buried it to give the opposition a 1-0 lead.
The second half was cagey, with both teams making only sporadic forward moves over the course of the 45 minutes. Both failed to appear particularly likely to score, and the game frequently lacked cohesion. The Biancocelesti won after extra time thanks to a goal from Felipe Anderson that was easy to score.
Lazio earned a crucial victory in Reggio Emilia, giving them the three points they desperately needed as they inch closer to a top-four finish. On the other hand, Sassuolo recently suffered a loss that has them in danger of being demoted.
