When struggling Spezia visits the Stadio Olimpico, Mauricio Sarri’s Lazio will be hoping to build on a strong start to the Serie A season.
Lazio enters this home match in fourth place overall in the table, level with champion Milan, and just three points behind early leaders Napoli after losing just one of their first seven league games of the season.
Spezia, on the other hand, travels to Italy’s stunning capital hoping to improve on a dismal road record that has seen them drop 7 of their last 10 away league games since February.
Spezia hasn’t had the smoothest of starts to the season, losing all three of their opening away games. Trips to Inter, Juventus, and Napoli proved to be challenging ways to begin their campaign. Spezia have made some progress, making each loss slightly less painful than the one before it.
Unfortunately for the visitors, this trip to Rome to take on a Lazio team that has only lost 4 of their previous 35 home league games since the start of 2021 doesn’t make their difficult stretch of games any easier.
Even though Lazio has triumphed in each of the team’s last four league matches, recent meetings between these teams have undoubtedly been entertaining. However, all four games ended with Lazio winning the rematch 4-3 after winning the first meeting between these teams 6-1 in Rome.
A home victory should be anticipated given Spezia’s poor road performance and Lazio’s strong home record, with Lazio proving to be too strong in the attacking areas for a team that appears likely to be involved in the relegation battle at the end of the season.
Following the international break, head coach Sarri might be forced to make some adjustments because several members of his first team are playing in matches abroad. Ciro Immobile, who was ejected from the Italian team that triumphed in Hungary on Wednesday, is one such uncertainty.
It is anticipated that Luca Gotti will stick with the team that defeated Sampdoria to boost morale just before the break.
Possible lineup for Lazio: Provedel; Marusic, Patric, Romagnoli, Hysaj; Basic, Cataldi, Milinkovic-Savic; Zaccagni, Romero, Anderson
Possible lineup for Spezia: Dragowski; Nikolaou, Kiwior, Ampadu; Reca, Bastoni, Bourabia, Ekdal, Holm; Nzola, Gyasi
