Lukaku to return to Chelsea after the season ends.

Romelu Lukaku won’t be staying at Inter on a long-term contract and will return to Chelsea, according to club CEO Giuseppe Marotta.

In a match many would have picked him to make the difference in just two years ago, Lukaku was reduced to playing a part as a substitute on a night when Inter reached a historic goal in qualifying for the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2011. After the 0-0 draw with Porto, Inter CEO Marotta was candid about the future of the Belgian.

“Lukaku deal? He will return to Chelsea as it’s straight loan, it’s part of the deal — then we will see”

“Lukaku is not in good condition yet, we are still waiting to see the real Romelu as we saw in the past”.

Marotta told Sky Italia.

After helping Inter win the Scudetto under Antonio Conte in 2020–21 and forming an outstanding partnership with Lautaro Martinez, Lukaku made a stunning £98 million return to his old team Chelsea. He had trouble catching up in the Premier League though, and in a shocking interview he begged for a return to Inter, which he got this season in the form of a loan.

However, injuries and inconsistent play have hindered the Belgian forward’s season and prevented him from scoring as much, only five goals in 17 appearances, as he had hoped.
