At San Siro, Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud defeated Bologna with the help of Charles De Ketelaere, who made his full Milan debut.
After a 1-1 draw away to Atalanta, the Rossoneri needed to get back on track. Despite Ibrahimovic and Krunic’s long-term absences, Giroud was back to full fitness, and Charles De Ketelaere made his first start for Milan. Orsolini was on suspension for Bologna, and Dijks was absent due to injury.
The Belgian had a quick impact because he recovered possession of the ball in midfield, burst through the middle, and spread it to the left, where Rafael Leao took a touch and surprised Lukasz Skorupski at the near post. A second De Ketelaere assist came moments later, this time for Pierre Kalulu, whose first touch cost him a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper.
On the cusp of halftime, Leao launched a quick counterattack, but Skorupski stopped him at the near post, and Marko Arnautovic just missed the cross at full stretch as it sped across the goal.
Leao sailed the ball over the top for acrobatic volley from Giroud, who just grazed it with his boot into far bottom corner after Andrea Cambiaso gave that away cheaply for Milan.
Yacine Adli entered the game to make his Serie A debut, but Bologna immediately presented a threat when Nicola Sansone unleashed a fierce shot that struck the outside of the near post. With his shot, Alexis Saelemaekers forced a low save, and Leao’s back-heel flick led to Davide Calabria’s angled drive being charged down.
And with that, Milan wins again this year in front of a boisterous home crowd! The second half was dominated by the Rossoneri, and Giroud’s spectacular volley, which came after more deft play from Leao, sealed the victory. Bologna had its moments, but they paled in comparison to the champions’ displays of quality, which demonstrated their equal competitiveness this season.
