Atalanta defeated Monza 2-0 at the U-Power Stadium to move two points ahead at the top of the Serie A standings.

Juan Musso was the game-changing player on both of Monza’s clear-cut chances in the first five minutes. Stefano Sensi’s attempt from the edge of the box was first deflected over the crossbar by the Argentina international, and Dany Mota Carvalho’s attempt from close range was then stopped.

The atmosphere changed drastically in the second half as Atalanta adopted an offensive stance, creating at least two or three opportunities before tallying the opening goal. Rasmus Hjlund scored his first Serie A goal to end the scoreless tie. It was initially ruled out for offside but was later confirmed after a VAR review. The 19-year-old took advantage of a flawless left-side assist from Ademola Lookman by placing the ball inside an empty net.

The second goal by La Dea, which was scored similarly, was made possible in large part by the 24-year-old. Finding his teammate at the far post, Ederson ran to the right. Marlon attempted to block the shot by sliding, but the ball ultimately found its way into the goal.

Colpani, acting as Monza’s response player, made a solo run before finishing with his left foot and sending the ball wide of the near post.

Atalanta has taken over as the league’s new leader, and Monza is at bottom of the table after loosing its first five league games.
