Monza 1-4 Roma: Dybala shine again for Roma in comfortable win

Roma cruised to a 4-1 Serie A victory over Monza, with Paulo Dybala once again starring for the club.

Dybala scored a goal and assisted on another as Daniele de Rossi’s Roma won their third consecutive league match since losing 4-2 at home to Inter in early February. The victory propelled Roma into the playoff conversation.

The away team’s scorers were Lorenzo Pellegrini, Romelu Lukaku, and Leandro Paredes; the home team’s Andrea Carboni scored a late consolation goal.

Twenty minutes into the game, Roma thought they took the lead when Bryan Cristante’s side-footed goal was disallowed due to Dybala’s offside interference.

On 38 minutes, Pellegrini put the Giallorossi ahead with a goal that he hammered into the far corner after displaying excellent footwork to get into the Monza area.

The second came four minutes later, when Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku, who is on loan, finished off a left-wing cross by Paulo Dybala.

Dybala scored his first goal just after the hour mark with a stunning free kick that went low and right, leaving Michele Di Gregorio clinging to nothing in the home goal.

With eight minutes left, Paredes scored the game-winning penalty kick after a decision that Warren Bondo had fouled Dean Huijsen.

Even with the clock ticking down, Carboni managed to salvage a point for Monza with a magnificent drive from the inside-left channel that evaded Mile Svilar’s near post.

But it was too late; de Rossi’s Roma are still on fire, and the Giallorossi are now in fifth place, just one point below Bologna for the last top-four slot.
