The goals scored by Aleksei Miranchuk, Gianluca Scamacca, and Teun Koopmeiners helped Atalanta get back on track with a 3-0 victory away from home. Napoli, on the other hand, had two shots on goal that were saved by Atalanta.
As a result of a heart attack suffered by Fiorentina director Joe Barone, La Dea’s last round of Serie A matches was postponed. La Dea had obtained two points from their previous four matches in the league.
Within the first two minutes of the match, Atalanta came very close to scoring their first goal. After receiving a slide-rule ball from Mario Pasalic, Aleksei Miranchuk attempted a snooker shot that beat Alex Meret but ultimately hit the base of the far post.
Osimhen’s diving header did not have sufficient strength to startle Marco Carnesecchi, but Atalanta gained the lead in a manner that was fairly chaotic.
Hans Hateboer and Gianluca Scamacca both nodded on Davide Zappacosta’s cross from the left side, and then Pasalic’s scuffed shot converted into an assist for Miranchuk to tap in from close range. Miranchuk scored the goal. Despite the fact that the hosts wanted it to be prohibited for a push, Amir Rrahmani was not up to the challenge.
Soon after that, Napoli had two chances to equalize the score: first, Osimhen sprung the offside trap, and then Carnesecchi came flying out to parry with his legs. Finally, Giorgio Scalvini cleared the follow-up shot from Matteo Politano, which was almost off the line.
After a few moments, Meret was required to do even better by executing a double rush off his line in order to force the ball off the feet of Pasalic and Sead Kolasinac, respectively.
Scamacca’s high push on Juan Jesus proved to be effective, and he teamed with Miranchuk to strike into the far bottom corner from outside the box. This allowed Atalanta to double their lead on the stroke of halftime.
In the 54th minute, Napoli had a fantastic double chance. Piotr Zielinski had a fierce left-foot volley that hit the inside of the far post, and then Stanislav Lobotka had a finish that was deflected off Osimhen and onto the other upright, thanks to Carnesecchi’s frantic scramble.
During the process of making a decisive tackle to prevent Jesper Lindstrom from getting clear on goal after Osimhen’s flick, Giorgio Scalvini sustained an injury to himself.
It was necessary for Meret to make use of his trailing hand in order to palm away the effort that Miranchuk made from the edge of the box. He subsequently replicated this action with Ademola Lookman.
Moreover, Carnesecchi had to be attentive in order to make two difficult stops on Osimhen. One of the saves was made with his foot, and the other was made on a scorching half-volley.
At the very moment when Napoli were exerting the most effort, Atalanta achieved a third goal with a counterattack. In the process of completing a give and go with Matteo Ruggeri, substitute Koopmeiners managed to hold off Juan Jesus and then finish with a snooker shot that was so precise that it went into the far bottom corner.
At the final whistle, Napoli was harshly jeered off the field, effectively putting an end to whatever remaining dreams they had of qualifying for the Champions League. Their chances of doing so were practically eliminated.
