At Stadio Maradona, Napoli’s game against Monza ended in a scoreless draw. The visitors could have won if Matteo Pessina had converted a penalty kick in the second half of the match.
In the second half of their match against Monza in Serie A, Napoli were able to earn a point thanks to the goalkeeper Alex Meret, who made a stop from a penalty kick taken by Matteo Pessina. Napoli have struggled throughout this season, and it didn’t help when manager Walter Mazzarri was sent to the stands for becoming involved in an argument that occurred on the pitch. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who plays for Napoli, had the opportunity to score before halftime but his shot went wide of the goal.
Napoli dominated play after a relatively quiet first half-hour. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa could have easily taken the lead when he grabbed onto a cross from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but he blasted straight at Michele Di Gregorio. Napoli came out on top.
Giacomo Raspadori was frustrated that nobody had made the effort to meet his cross-shot after the restart. Amir Rrahmani was given the opportunity to score with a free header on a set play, but he failed to take use of the opportunity and went over the crossbar.
After Raspadori had sent Kvaratskhelia free, the Georgian hesitated and then prodded the finish right at Di Gregorio despite the fact that he was facing him one-on-one.
During the flurry of attacks that Monza launched, Dany Mota Carvalho forced Meret to parry the ball with his legs at the near post. As the action continued, Andrea Colpani’s shot hit Mario Rui’s arm from a point-blank range. A penalty was awarded by the referee; however, Matteo Pessina’s attempt was so feeble and in the middle of the field that Meret hardly needed to move in order to smother it successfully.
While Meret hobbled off with a muscle issue, Kvaratskhelia and Zerbin once again missed the target from positions that were promising. The absence of Pierluigi Gollini, who was also suffering from an ankle ailment, allowed Nikita Contini to make a rare appearance.
It was determined that Walter Mazzarri had exceeded the boundaries of his technical area when he rushed onto the field to mediate a dispute between Warren Bondo and Kvaratskhelia. Unfortunately, he was dismissed from the game.
Despite the fact that Napoli continued to let Monza off the hook with poor finishing, Gianluca Gaetano struck Di Gregorio with a direct shot during stoppages. Additionally, Raffaele Palladino, the visiting coach, was dismissed from the game, this time for dissent.
