Roma defeated Napoli at home in Serie A on Saturday. Lorenzo Pellegrini and Romelu Lukaku scored the goals that gave AS Roma the victory. Matteo Politano and Victor Osimhen were both sent off for the Napoli.

Napoli fell to seventh place, while Roma moved up to sixth place with 28 points. Roma is now one point ahead of Napoli. Since taking over for Rudi Garcia in November, Walter Mazzarri has now only lost five of the eight games he has played across all competitions this season.

Pellegrini, who had only been on the field for five minutes, scored the first goal in a tense match in the 76th minute. He scored with a half-volley on the turn that went into the top corner of the net. The ball dropped to him after Stephan El Shaarawy had missed his attempt.

Napoli were already down to ten men after Politano was sent off for kicking out at Nicola Zalewski in the 66th minute. Zalewski pulled Politano back by his jersey, which resulted in Politano being penalized for his actions. Osimhen received a second yellow card in the 86th minute, and Napoli had goalkeeper Alex Meret to thank for keeping the score at 1-0.

Lukaku sealed the victory in the 96th minute, when Napoli was still looking for a late equalizer. During a counterattack, Lukaku took possession of the ball within the Napoli half and passed it to Ndicka. Ndicka then played the ball back to the Belgian striker, who then scored his goal by shooting it into the net.

The referee reached for the yellow card on six separate occasions throughout the first half, including booking both managers. This was due to the fact that Napoli had the majority of possession, but Roma appeared to be the more dangerous team.
