This weekend marks the start of the 2022–23 Serie A season, with Napoli taking on Torino in the opening game. Torino is currently mired in mid-table in Serie A, trailing Luciano Spalletti’s team.
In order to keep Napoli in the title race before the 2022 World Cup, Spalletti has given them a strong start to the Serie A season 2022–2023 so far.
Prior to the international break, his team had 17 points on the board and was one of only two still unbeaten teams. They continue to be in first place, ahead of the only other unbeaten team, Atalanta.
With five victories in all competitions prior to the international window, including three in domestic play, the hosts are understandably the favourites to continue and win this match. This contrasts with Torino’s performance of two victories in their previous five league games.
In six of their nine games thus far this season, including four in league play, Spalletti’s charges have scored more than 1.5 goals, allowing them to move up the table.
With 15 goals scored so far this season, they have tied for the most goals scored in Serie A with third-place Udinese.
Four of their seven league games have seen more than 2.5 goals scored in the first 90 minutes of play overall. Three of Torino’s seven games have seen more than two goals scored before the final siren.
Napoli has struggled to keep clean sheets lately, with just one successful shutout completed in their last four league games, despite their position as strong hosts heading into this match. Additionally, Torino has scored in four of their seven games so far this year.
Even if they give up a goal, Napoli will be confident that they can extend their unbeaten streak with a victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona as anticipation for a title challenge in the coming months grows.
Victor Osimhen, a crucial forward for Napoli, is still out injured, and Italian winger Matteo Politano has joined him during the international break. Osimhen will be replaced by Giacomo Raspadori, and Eljif Elmas will replace Politano.
Ivan Juric, the head coach of Torino, is still without Mergim Vojvoda and Pietro Pellegri due to injuries, and Samuele Ricci will undergo a late fitness test. Due to these absences, Antonio Sanabria and Ola Aina will be pushing for the starting position for the visitors.
Possible lineup for Napoli (4-3-3): Meret; Mario Rui, Kim, Rrahmani, Di Lorenzo; Elmas, Anguissa, Lobotka; Kvaratskhelia, Raspadori, Zielinski
Possible lineup for Torino (3-5-2): Milinkovic-Savic; Buongiorno, Schuurs, Aina; Lazaro, Linetty, Lukic, Vlasic, Sanabria; Seck, Radonjic
