In the last seconds of the match in Leipzig, Portugal defeated the Czech Republic 2-1 at Euro 2024 thanks to a goal by Francisco Conceicao.

Upon being selected for the starting lineup by Roberto Martinez, Ronaldo made history by becoming the first player to participate in six European Championships on multiple occasions for Portugal.

It was possible for the 39-year-old player to score a goal to commemorate the historic event. He came close to scoring on three separate occasions during the first period, but he missed the target in the early parts of the game. Jindrich Stanek made a couple of excellent saves to prevent him from scoring.

Lukas Provod scored a fantastic goal for the Czech Republic, which gave them an unexpected lead. Portugal, who had been dominating the first hour of the match, were left startled by her performance.

Stanek shoved the ball onto Robin Hranac, who could only watch it roll into the net, and unfortunately for Ivan Hasek’s team, their thin advantage only lasted for seven minutes before they lost an equalizer on the same play.

After Liverpool’s Diogo Jota had a goal disallowed, Portugal believed they had been denied the opportunity to gain all three points. However, all of that was forgotten when Conceicao scored a spectacular goal in the 92nd minute to win the match.

Despite the fact that he had already made history simply by being present on the pitch that was drenched in rain, Ronaldo was eager to make a contribution that was important and add to his already impressive total of 130 goals scored for his country.

After rising high to meet Rafael Leao’s lofted cross, Ronaldo had his first opportunity to score in the eighth minute, but he missed the target by putting the ball wide of the goal.

It should not have come as a surprise that Portugal dominated possession, as they boast a wide range of world-class skill. This was a challenge for the Czech Republic, as they needed to maintain their discipline and compactness in their defensive form.

When the game had already beyond the half-hour mark, Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United was able to break through a resolute Czech Republic defense by delivering a magnificent ball that put Ronaldo in position to score. However, the Al-Nassr striker was unable to find a way to go past Stanek, who was sprawled out in front of him.

Then, at the stroke of halftime, Ronaldo made a threat by cutting onto his left foot and then proceeding to sting Stanek’s palms with a strong attempt.

The Selecao continued to probe and press for the all-important opener in the second quarter, despite the fact that they were unable to break the deadlock before the break.

The Czech fans, on the other hand, were the ones who were applauding a stunning long-range shot when the first goal was ultimately scored.

In order to blast an unstoppable strike into the far corner, Provod capitalized on Vladimir Coufal’s clever layoff, which resulted in scenes of euphoria among the Czech delegation.

Stanek was unable to sufficiently deal with Nuno Mendes’ downward header, which resulted in the ball being pushed against the unfortunate Hranac and enabling it to roll into the waiting net. This ultimately led to their lead being short-lived.

After that, Jota was under the impression that he had scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute for Portugal by tucking the ball home after Ronaldo’s header had smashed against the upright.

However, a speedy review by the video assistant referee (VAR) determined that the former Real Madrid forward had just drifted offside, providing a reprieve to the fatigued Czech Republic team.

At the precise moment when the Czechia was beginning to believe that they had done enough to secure a point, Conceicao came off the bench to make a critical intervention in his third appearance for Portugal in international competition.

By taking advantage of Hranac’s inability to deal with a cross from Pedro Neto, the Portugal midfielder was able to score all three points in a dramatic manner by shooting the ball under Stanek.
