With his first start, the new signing Boulaye Dia had a significant impact for Salernitana, scoring a goal and dishing out two assists in the 4-0 thrashing of Sampdoria.
The hosts started Boulaye Dia despite the absence of Emil Bohinen, Radovanovic, Ribery, and Lovato. Samp hoped to build on their 0-0 draw with Juventus the previous week.
After eight minutes, Dia met Federico Bonazzoli’s cross from the right and put the ball in the back of the net. Initially determined to be offside, it was later declared on after a protracted VAR review. A fierce long-range shot from Antonio Candreva was palmed away by Emil Audero seconds later as he went up against his former teammates.
After a Gonzalo Villar mistake, Federico Bonazzoli swept a first-time shot from 12 yards into the top corner to double Salernitana’s lead. Dia pulled the ball back. Play had already been stopped for a Dia push, but Bonazzoli squandered a great chance from close range.
When Sampdoria awoke, Luigi Sepe had three saves to make: one on an angled drive from Filip Djuricic, one on a follow-up from Francesco Caputo, and finally one on a header from Medhi Leris.
Immediately after the restart, Bonazzoli had the ball in the net, but it was ruled that Dia was offside. Another recent addition helped Salernitana score their third goal as Lassana Coulibaly set up Tonny Vilhena for a dinked effort one on one with the goalkeeper.
Caputo fumbled after being in a good position, but Salernitana completed the rout with another Dia assist. Erik Botheim was able to beat the offside trap and sweep the ball across the goalkeeper with the inside of his right boot, in off the far post.
