SERIE A | Sassuolo 5-0 Salernitana : The Neroverdi put a commanding display at home.

The first female referee for a Serie A match made history, but Armand Lauriente stole the show with a goal, an assist, and a commanding display as Sassuolo thrashed Salernitana.

For the first time ever, Ferrieri Caputi officiated a Serie A men’s game. Having lost Domenico Berardi, Gregoire Defrel, Hamed Junior Traore, Mert Muldur, and Filippo Romagna, the Neroverdi were still dealing with a serious injury crisis. Meanwhile, Federico Fazio, Emil Bohinen, and Franck Ribery were absent for Salernitana.

After a few opportunities, Sassuolo took the lead when Armand Lauriente challenged Dylan Bronn, who had backed off too much, and did so in a way that allowed him to choose his spot and sweep the ball with his right foot into the far bottom corner.

Almost immediately after, Thorstvedt capitalized on a mistake and sent another defender to the ground with a shimmy, but Luigi Sepe made the last-ditch save from point blank range.

Following a brilliant Giulio Maggiore through ball, Andrea Consigli denied Boulaye Dia from close range at the near post. Laurentie nearly added a second goal while sprinting out of his own half, but Sepe and Matteo Lovato stopped him in time for the goal.

When Emil Ceide wriggled past three defenders and eventually collapsed under a Maggiore challenge that appeared to only catch his ankle, referee Caputi pointed to the spot. The conversion by Andrea Pinamonti increased Sassuolo’s advantage.

Davide Frattesi narrowly missed connecting with a through ball from Maxime Lopez, and Krzysztof Piatek’s header was brilliantly saved by Consigli in response, but it wouldn’t have counted because the Salernitana striker had pushed his defender.

When Thorstvedt was set free by a perfectly weighted through ball from substitute Agustin Alvarez, Sassuolo added a third goal across the goalkeeper.

When Lauriente slid across for Harroui to sweep home from 15 yards, there wasn’t much Sepe could do. Lauriente again set up Thorstvedt to force a save. Even though Sepe gave Agustin Alvarez everything he had, there was still some chance of a comeback for Janis Antiste.
