In Turin, Napoli went on rampage as defeated Torino 4-0 in a dominating way. Victor Osimhen scored a brace while Kvaratskhelia also scored from penalty spot
Torino, has appeared to be a sharper team since losing to Juventus in the derby. But they will be aware that if they hope to get anything out of this one, they have their work cut out for them.
Napoli’s already fearsome frontline had received a boost with the return of Hirving Lozano this weekend. Along with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Victor Osimhen.
The visitors won the game’s first corner, but it was in vain as they were sternly turned away from the edge of the box. Another problematic corner was provided by Zielinski, and it was a lovely delivery that was carefully weighted before being lofted into the space. The visitors quickly took the lead from the headed goal of none other than Osimhen. The forward quickly rose to the lovely corner and headed in for Napoli.
There was a wonderful opportunity for Kvaratskhelia. He received a beautiful back-heel from Osimhen in the box, but he shot into the stands. Torino suddenly and precisely cut through Napoli’s defence, forcing Meret to parry a Vlasic shot.
Osimhen once more tried his luck as Napoli sought to regain the upper hand in this match. This time, he lofted his attempt high and wide, missing the mark.
As both players fought for the ball inside the box, Linetty bit Kvaratskhelia with a high boot, and the referee pointed to the spot. Kvaratskhelia converted the penalty with a shot directly down the middle, making no mistakes from the spot.
Osimhen came close to doubling up. The forward launched a rocket of a hit, and Milinkovic-Savic did well to deflect it. The goalkeeper was angry with his defence.
Torino had a chance, but they missed the target with a header because Schuurs was initially flagged for offside. Napoli escaped once more.
Osimhen scored twice with a spectacular header. Olivera dragged the ball across for the goal, and it appeared that his delivery may have simply been overdone. The work was still beautiful as Osimhen nipped in at a tight angle to finish Mathias Olivera’s excellent cross at the right post.
Singo’s close-range header off a corner could have given Torino a chance to get back into this game. Buongiorno also went wide a bit later. Napoli maintained its lead. Nearly a hat trick for Osimhen, as his third attempt was nearly successful, but it was blocked.
Torino attempted to throw themselves another lifeline, but Sanabria pinned a right-footed effort wide. Rrahmani joined in the action and sent a shot sailing over the crossbar.
Napoli extended their lead to four. Ndombele finished a long-ball move by nutmegging Kvaratskhelia’s sweeping ball as he entered the field. Kvaratskhelia passed the ball and received credit for the assist. However, Osimhen contributed just as much with his touch, initially slowing down play on the right wing.
Di Lorenzo gave up a corner, but Torino was unable to create a great opportunity from it. From this point forward, Napoli will merely want to maintain a perfect record. Sanabria shot wide at the left post. Napoli kept them at bay with obstinate determination.
Sanabria was stopped by the offside trap as Ilic dekivered a crafty throughball between the Napoli lines. As Meret received medical attention, there was a brief break in play before both teams were able to pick up where they left off. Another heartwarming victory today was aided by the keeper.
