The Italy attacker was on the radar of numerous Serie A clubs and was largely anticipated to depart Mapei this summer. According to Italian media, Sassuolo attacker Giacomo Raspadori is being eyed as a substitute for Dries Mertens at Napoli. According to Il Corriere dello Sport, he has informed Napoli of his desire to go, and Partenopei president Aurelio De Laurentiis will immediately begin talks with Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali.
Raspadori is seen as a symbol of Napoli’s youthful revolution, according to the newspaper. Senior figures such as Lorenzo Insigne, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Dries Mertens have all left Napoli this summer as the club looks to usher in a new era.
According to the source, the 22-year-old would be joining as a straight replacement for Dries Mertens, which would be large shoes to fill given that the Belgium attacker is Napoli’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Raspadori has three goals in 13 Italy games and 18 goals in 78 Sassuolo appearances since making his senior debut in 2019.
