On Sunday evening, Juventus battled back against Bologna to secure a point by virtue of a late header from Dusan Vlahovic. The match ended in a 1-1 tie at Juventus Stadium.
Before Dusan Vlahovic scored a late header for his team, Bologna appeared to be on the verge of achieving a victory over Juventus for the first time in 24 years. However, the Italian club was ultimately only able to salvage a draw from the match.
From that point on, the revitalised home team appeared to have the best chance of claiming victory, while Thiago Motta’s side appeared to be running out of steam. In the end, the visitors were able to salvage a vital draw from their match in Turin.
In the first game of the Serie A season, Juventus defeated Udinese on the road by a score of 3-0; yet, in this game, they appeared to be devoid of any attacking quality for more than an hour.
Lewis Ferguson of Scotland took the away team the lead with a shot from the edge of the box after good hold-up play by Joshua Zirkzee in the 24th minute. The Scotsman buried his attempt into the bottom corner to give the away team the advantage.
Because of a disastrous misunderstanding in the Juventus backline, Bologna was able to capitalize on a collision between Alex Sandro and Bremer, which caused both players to sustain terrible injuries.
After only four minutes, a similar sequence almost occurred when Zirkzee again plucked the ball out of the air and set up Ferguson, whose effort narrowly missed Mattia Perin’s goal. Again, Zirkzee plucked the ball out of the air and set up Ferguson for a near-repetition.
The home team had control of the ball going into halftime, but they had accomplished very little with it. They had only produced four shots at that point. Two of those were unsuccessful due to obstruction, and the other two were shot from an optimistically long range.
Shortly after the game was restarted, it appeared that Juventus had tied the score after Vlahovic’s close-range header after some nice work by Alex Sandro and Bremer. However, the goal was disallowed because it was determined that Vlahovic was offside.
As the whistle blew to signal the start of the second half, Juventus continued their dominant play with the ball from the first half. After fifteen minutes of the second stanza, Juve enjoyed almost eighty percent of the ball possession.
The entry of Paul Pogba into the game in the 66th minute made a significant impact on Juve’s penetration, and it was with 10 minutes left to play that they were eventually able to break down Bologna’s defense.
Pogba moved the ball down the left flank and sent it to another replacement, Samuel Iling-Junior, who then delivered a beautiful cross to Vlahovic. The game was tied when the No. 9 player for Serbia leaped into the air and directed a powerful header into the lower corner of the goal.
After that point, Juventus never stopped pushing forward, and they appeared to be re-energized as a result of their equalizer.
Bologna sparked a few late concerns for the home team during the second of seven minutes of stoppage time, but the score stayed tied.
After suffering their first loss of the season at home against Milan by a score of 2-0, Bologna will be glad to have earned their first point, but in the end, they will be disappointed that they did not earn all three.
