Amrabat is scheduled to make a loan transfer to Old Trafford, and as part of the deal, Manchester United will have the option to make the move permanent during the summer of 2024.
After agreeing to Dean Henderson’s transfer to Crystal Palace, United were finally in a position to make a move for Amrabat, who is 27 years old. On Thursday, Henderson completed his transfer to Palace in a transaction with a potential value of £20 million.
In order to get Sofyan Amrabat on loan, the team will pay €10m, and they will have the option to buy the player for €20m plus €5m add-ons. Although Fiorentina would have liked a permanent deal, United is cautious of complying with Financial Fair Play standards.
There is a deadline of May to exercise the option to buy Amrabat, and if United does not exercise it, there is wiggle area for Fiorentina to negotiate a new deal with Amrabat before the current one expires.
Matt Hargreaves, who is the director of football negotiations for United, traveled to Italy in order to finalize the transaction.
In light of the ongoing rumors over his future, Amrabat was not included in the Fiorentina squad that competed against Rapid Vienna in the second leg of the Europa Conference League play-off on Thursday.
